Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3108, together with volunteers from Sons of American Legion, Belfast Area High School students in the Jobs for Maine's Graduates program, Bank of America employees and a multitude of others, placed flags on veterans' final resting places Saturday, May 26.

About 55 people of all ages helped place flags from 9 to about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, in advance of Memorial Day observances. They covered veterans' graves in Smart Cemetery on Curtis Road, the cemetery on Doak Road, the small cemetery on Oak Hill Road, and Grove Cemetery.

Earlier in the week, VFW members and high school students also placed flags on telephone poles around the city.
