The Mount View baseball and softball teams — out of the Class B North playoff picture — concluded their regular seasons on Tuesday, May 29 on the road against Maranacook of Readfield.

The Black Bears, both playoff-bound squads, emerged victorious as Mustang softball fell 10-7 and baseball 10-0 in five innings.

Softball

Maranacook 10, Mount View 7

At Readfield May 29, the Black Bears bested the visiting Mustangs. Mount View scored one run in the third and fifth innings and five in the seventh, while Maranacook scored three in the first, five in the second and two in the third.

Leading Mount View at the plate were Taylor Hodgdon (single, 2 runs), Emily Lancaster (run), Gabriella Hanks (run), Alex Fountain (run), Leah Bradstreet (run) and Devon Burgess (single, run).

For Maranacook, Abygail Jacques (single, 3 runs), Amanda Goucher (2 singles, 2 runs), Brooke Stratton (home run, single, 2 runs), Allyse Bonenfant (2 runs), Natalie Costa (single, run), Kaylee Jones (single) and Carolina Bachelder (single) led the way.

Costa pitched for the Black Bears, as she allowed two hits and three walks, with six strikeouts. Morgan Fonger pitched for the Mustangs, as she allowed eight hits and one walk, with three strikeouts.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (1-15, 5.8594 points) is 21st, while Brewer (16-0, 216.0938 points) is first in the 21-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Baseball

Maranacook 10, Mount View 0 (5 inns.)

At Readfield May 29, the Black Bears swung past the Mustangs by mercy rule. Maranacook scored six runs in the first inning, one in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Dan Garand fired a no-hitter on the hill for Maranacook, as he yielded three walks and struck out nine. Neal Kenney and Noah Jacobs pitched for Mount View, allowing five hits and six walks, with four strikeouts.

Jeff Easter (single, run, stolen base), Mitch Root (single, run), Aric Belanger (double, run), Jackson McPhedran (single, run), Avery Beckwith (run), Garand (run), Silas Mohlar (run), Avery Beckwith (single, run) and Wyatt Lambert (run) paced the offense.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (2-14, 5.7813 points) is 21st, while Ellsworth (15-1, 169.3750 points) is first in the 21-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.
