Eight Belfast high school track-and-field athletes earned the right — and competed well — to participate in the 73rd New England Interscholastic championships on Saturday, June 9 at the University of New Hampshire.
Junne Robertson-McIntire, Kelsey Mehuren, Lillie Mitchell, Emily Jolliffe,Tyson Hill, Carter Patterson, Christian Sukeforth and Ricky Smith competed in the prestigious meet.
Robertson-McIntire placed 12th in the 200 meters and 20th in the 100 meters, while the girls 4×400-meter relay team of Robertson-McIntire, Mehuren, Mitchell and Jolliffe finished 21st and the boys 4×400-meter relay of Hill, Patterson, Sukeforth and Smith finished 28th.
The individual and relay results for Belfast student-athletes included:
Girls 100 meters (33 runners) — Finals: 1, Terry Miller, Bulkeley, Conn., 11.97. Prelims: 1, Terry Miller, Bulkeley, Conn., 12.46; and 20, Robertson-McIntire, Bel, 13.44.
Girls 200 meters (26 runners) — 1 Terry Miller, Bulkeley, Conn., 24.43; and 12, Robertson-McIntire, 26.15.
Girls 4×400-meter relay (29 teams) — 1, Bloomfield, Conn. (Jahleah Harris, Jahlia Banton, Jillian Mars, Jayden Gibson), 3:57.46; and 21, Belfast (Mehuren, Mitchell, Jolliffe, Robertson-McIntire), 4:13.73.
Boys 4×400-meter relay (29 teams) — 1, Manchester, Conn. (Jevin Frett, Joe Pearl, Willy Joyner, Shawn Akomeah), 3:21.85; and 28, Belfast (Hill, Patterson, Sukeforth, Smith), 3:39.95.
