With a vote of 305 to 178, voters in Stockton Springs rejected "pursuit of funding and other resources for the purpose of constructing a Wastewater Treatment Facility."
The question was placed on the ballot by selectmen after completion of a wastewater feasibility study of a commercial zone along Route 1 projected costs of more than $4 million.
The study was narrowly approved at the 2017 annual town meeting, over objections from some residents that it was a repeated effort. Selectmen hoped availability of wastewater treatment might spark economic development.
