The Penobscot Valley Conference has unveiled its Class D all-conference and all-academic selections, and a handful of Searsport baseball and softball athletes can lay claim to being among the league's best.
The Waldo County teams had five players selected for first team, while three others were bestowed honorable-mention honors, while one Viking shared the conference’s highest honor.
In baseball, Ben Powell, Charlie Spiegel and Liam MacMillian secured all-conference honors.
For his play on the diamond, Spiegel was selected as co-player of the year for the conference, along with Bangor Christian’s Dean Grass. Both are Waldo County residents
In an ironic twist, Grass and Spiegel pitched against one another in the 2017 Class D state championship contest, which Searsport won 6-5 in nine innings.
On the softball side, Jenna Keach and Mackenzie Alley were the Vikings to earn all-conference honors, while teammates Mikaela Alley, Abby Stemp and Arianna Stemp earned honorable-mention honors. The Alleys are sisters.
Additionally, Makenna Woodward earned all-academic honors.
