The dog days of summer continued for Midcoast — the area’s American Legion Junior League team — as it hosted Skowhegan on Wednesday, June 20.

Midcoast, which has been white-hot to start the season with a 4-1 record, had their heels cooled as Skowhegan went on the offensive late and prevailed 11-3.

The following is a recap of Wednesday’s contest:

Skowhegan 11, Midcoast 3

At Belfast June 20, Skowhegan broke a 3-3 tie with eight unanswered runs late in the contest and surged past Midcoast. Skowhegan scored one run in the first, third and fourth innings, two more in the sixth and six in the seventh, while Midcoast scored two in the third and one in the fifth.

True Crane, Dakota Payson, Neil Kenney and Jason Greenleaf pitched for Midcoast, allowing 11 hits and six walks, with seven strikeouts. Skowhegan pitching allowed seven hits and three walks, with three strikeouts.

Leading the hosts at the plate were Crane (double, 2 runs, stolen base), Aiden Schecter (double, single, run), Jason Bartlett (triple, single), Payson (single) and Sam Moody (single)

For Skowhegan, Matt Berry (single, run, stolen base), Cam Louder (single, 2 runs), Kyle Kruse (single, 2 runs), Tibbetts (double, 2 runs), Carter Hunt (double, 2 singles, run), Braden McCarthy (2 singles), Chance Tolle (double), Hansen Tolle (2 runs) and Jimmy Reed (run) paced the offense.
