The District 2 Little League 9- and 10-year-old baseball double-elimination tournament is underway at E. Allen Gordon Field, after many days of exhibition contests between some of the area's youngest diamond athletes.

The tournament began with exhibition games on Saturday, June 17, as the official tourney began on Saturday, June 30 in Rockland. Teams from Oceanside, Five Town, Waldo County, Lincoln County and Medomak Valley will participate.

The winner of the tournament will represent District 2 at the state tournament, set to begin on Saturday, July 21 in Old Town.

Several games are in the books after Saturday, June 30, as Waldo County posted a 16-5, five-inning win over Five Town and Medomak Valley swung to a 22-15 victory over Lincoln County.

Then, on Monday, July 2, Oceanside posted an 11-6 win over Medomak Valley.

Upcoming games include Five Town and Lincoln County in an elimination game on Thursday, July 5, also at 5:30 p.m., while Waldo County and Oceanside will square off in a winner's bracket contest on Sunday, July 8 at 3 p.m., all at the same venue.

The team members for the area teams in the district tournament include:

Oceanside — Joshua Pratt, Owen Simmons, Nicholas Tripp, Nathan Walton, Frankie Whytock, Easton Willis, Thomas Geddis, Grady Geretz, Donovan Guptill, Hunter Hamilton, Alonzo Hoose and Jackson Kay. The team is coached by Jason Geretz, David Geddis and Jason Simmons.

Waldo County — Kaden Bradeen, Brady Bryant, Raven Carbisiero, Shane Carson, William Gibbs, Minh Ha, Stuart Knowlton, Luke Littlefield, Logan Powers, Dyson Thornley, Dawson Tripp and Alexander Whitney. The team is coached by Lenny Knowlton, Chester Tripp and Kyle Gibbs.

Five Town — Nolan Ames, Blake Christie, Liam Day-Lynch, Dom Domareki, Carter Grant, Garrett Hall, Connor Harris, Landon Hotchkin, Will Laidlaw, Thomas Leadbetter, Barlow Marshall, Cormac Pierce, Jacob Talbot and Tucker Whitley. The team is coached by Greg Domareki, Mike Ames and Andrew Marshall.

Medomak Valley — Josh Blake, Aiden Herring, Nolan Wellman, Lanny Morrison, Jacques Thomas, Austin Wilshire, Tucker Brown, Thomas Brown, Wyatt Simmons, Wyatt Hood, Jacoby Severson, Sidney Hutchins and Devin Benedix. The team is coached by Andy Severson, Pat Hood and Chris Wellman.

Oceanside 11, Medomak Valley 6

At Rockland July 2, Oceanside sent Medomak Valley to the loser’s bracket. Oceanside scored one run in the first inning, four in the third, two in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth, while Medomak Valley scored three in the first, one in the third and two in the fifth.

Leading Oceanside at the plate were Hoose (2 singles, 3 runs, 2 stolen bases), Pratt (2 runs), Geddis (run), Hamilton (2 singles, 2 runs), Geretz (home run), Tripp (single, run, 2 stolen bases), Willis (run) and Kay (single).

For Medomak Valley, Thomas (2 singles, run), Wilshire (run), Blake (2 singles, run, stolen base), Brown (run), Simmons (single, stolen base) and Benedix (single) paced the offense.

Blake pitched for Medomak Valley, allowing seven hits and 11 walks, with nine strikeouts. Hamilton pitched for Oceanside, allowing six hits and six walks, with 13 strikeouts.

Waldo County 16, Five Town 5 (5 inns.)

At Rockland June 30, Waldo County announced its presence with authority with a lopsided, mercy-rule win over Five Town. Waldo County scored one run in the first inning, two in the second and walked off with a whopping 13-run fifth frame. Five Town scored one in the third and four in the fourth.

Leading Waldo County at the dish were Knowlton (2 runs), Powers (2 singles), Littlefield (2 singles, 3 runs), Tripp (2 singles, 2 runs), Carson (single, RBI), Bradeen (2 runs), Whitney (2 runs), Thornley (2 runs), Gibbs (2 runs), Bryant (single, RBI) and Carbisiero (single, run).

For Five Town, Christie (single, 2 runs), Whitley (single), Talbot (run), Harris (single, run) and Hall (run) paced the offense.

Knowlton pitched for Waldo County, as he allowed three hits, six walks and one hit batter, with nine strikeouts. Ames pitched for Five Town, allowing nine hits and 10 walks, with six strikeouts.

Others pitchers may have worked the hill, but were not recorded in the scorebooks.

Medomak Valley 22, Lincoln County 15

At Rockland June 30, Medomak Valley prevailed over Lincoln County in a high-scoring affair. Medomak Valley scored seven in the first, five in the second, four in the third, three in the fourth and three in the fifth, while Lincoln County scored four in the first, five in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Leading Medomak Valley at the plate were Thomas (3 singles, 2 runs), Herring (single, 2 runs), Blake (double, 3 singles, 5 runs, 2 RBIs), Brown (4 runs), Wilshire (single, 2 runs), Severson (single, 2 runs), Wellman (single, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Hutchins (run) and Simmons (single, run).

For Lincoln County, with first names unavailable, J. Hedrik (2 runs), P Brewer (run), C. Ober (single, 3 runs), T. Tibbetts (single, run), M. Farrin (double, 3 runs), H. Pierpont (double, single, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), S. Gamage (run), B. Gamage (single), L. Shirley (single, run) and H. Hinckley (run) paced the offense.

Shirley and Farrin pitched for Lincoln County, as the tandem allowed 12 hits, 10 walks and two hit batters, with 12 strikeouts. Herring and Thomas pitched for Medomak Valley, as the two allowed seven hits, 13 walks and three hit batters, with 10 strikeouts.
