A tractor-trailer jackknifed on Route 3 after a car failed to stop at Thompson Ridge Road Tuesday morning around 9:15. The vehicles did not collide, but the truck cab was damaged when it slammed into the trailer it was hauling.

Traffic on Route 3 was delayed as a result.

Maine State Police said Bruce Labombarde, 26, of Lincolnville, was driving a Chrysler 200 south on Thompson Ridge Road and failed to stop at the intersection.

Kennebec Metal Recyclers tractor-trailer driver Ed English of Skowhegan was traveling west on Route 3 at the time. When he saw Labombarde's car, English applied his brakes to avoid a collision, police said.

According to English, he "locked up the brakes," as evidenced by the marks on the road.

Labombarde told police he was "creeping up" into the intersection because his view was obstructed.

Searsmont Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and Ambulance, responded and traffic was delayed for about a half-hour.

Police charged Labombarde with failure to yield the right-of-way.
