The "Run For Your Life" Stockton Springs Ambulance 5- and 12-kilometer road races are in preparation for their fourth annual running, this time on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The races begin at the Stockton Springs Town Office and shift onto Jellison Road. The 5K runners will turn around and return to the town office at a designated spot, while the 12K runners will continue on to Lighthouse Road and to Fort Point Lighthouse before returning to the town office.

Runners can register the day of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m., with the races to begin at 9 a.m. Runners also can preregister online at, at the Stockton Springs Town Office or via the event’s Facebook page, “Run For Your Life 5K and 12K Stockton Springs Ambulance.”

Registration forms also will be available at various businesses in Searsport, Stockton Springs and Belfast.

Race director Jen Skala said there will be a separate 5K taking place simultaneously, dubbed the Public Safety Challenge, in which police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and others in the field from throughout the state race for bragging rights — and a trophy.

“The name of the person who won and the year goes on there and then it goes back to their station for that year,” she said. “Right now it’s over in Blue Hill, because that’s where the person who has won it the last two years is. So there’s a little bit of a fun animosity there that someone’s going to take it this year.”

There also will be prizes for overall winners over several different age categories in the standard 5K and 12K races.

Proceeds for the race benefit the Stockton Springs Ambulance’s equipment fund.
