Families gathered Aug. 4 at Penobscot Marine Museum for its annual Heritage Day event. Decked out in boat-building-themed exhibits and photographs, the Main Street Gallery was set up with materials for visitors to make their own toy boats to sail in the museum’s model pond and take home. Here, parents and children are creating their sailing vessels.

The museum’s Heritage Day event was designed to get families and members of the community actively involved with rapidly disappearing elements of Maine’s history. Leading up to the event, locals were encouraged to bring in model boats for display.

Despite some rainy weather, the day went off without a hitch.
