The entrance to the new unified Waldo County courthouse, now under construction in Belfast, above right, includes a neoclassical pediment and columns, added in response to public backlash over an early artist's rendering that featured a nondescript, modern design.

The final design, released in April 2017, drew comparisons to other local landmark buildings, including Waldo County General Hospital.

As the courthouse entrance is going up, the hospital entrance is coming down, to be replaced with a modern glass one as part of an expansion of the emergency room. Both buildings are pictured on Aug. 14.
