The weather was less than desirable; the wind whipped and the rain fell. But that did not stop the 19th annual Come Boating! Regatta Saturday, Aug. 18, as single kayaks, sliding seat singles, outrigger canoes and various other skiffs, gigs and canoes hit the water and navigated around the course in Belfast Harbor.

The event is part of the city’s annual Harbor Fest and again impressed the crowds as many put their oars in the water in search of personal bests along the grueling 4 nautical mile stretch.

Hank Thorburn, Daniel Benson, Terry Wescott, Chip Loring, Mark Ranco, Monica van Peski, Roy Rodgers, Rafe Blood, Logan Perkins, William Colcor, Rodney McLain, Roberta McLain, Alexanova McLain, Andrew McLain, Steve Lock, Amy Grant, Nancy Durand, Quinn Waluski, Clark Staples, Jim Bahoosh, Natalia Rose, Linda Hurley, Steffanie Pyle, Serena Cole, Willy Reddick, Susan Cutting, Jackie McKenney, Paula Heron, Rowan Waluski, Ethan Shaw, John Dillenbeck, Andrew Carpenter, Jonathan Fulford, Matt Dingle and Geir Gaseidnes were among first place finishers in their respective divisions.

Two of the boats were built locally in recent months. The Phoenix, a St. Ayles skiff, was built by students at BCOPE, a community-based alternative education program within the Regional School Unit (RSU 71). The Spirit, a pilot gig, was built at The Apprenticeshop in Rockland.
