The Belfast and Mount View high school golf teams began the campaign on opposite ends of the spectrum, as the Lions prowled to a 2-0 start and the Mustangs are 0-2 through two matches — as the latter links meeting pitted the Waldo County rivals against one another.

The Lions posted a 9-0 win over the host Mustangs on Monday, Aug. 27 at the Country View Golf Course and also began the season with an 8-1 home victory against Lincoln Academy of Newcastle on Friday, Aug. 24 at Northport Golf Club.

The 'Stangs also began their season on the road with a 9-0 loss against Morse of Bath on Friday.

Belfast 9, Mount View 0

At Country View Golf Course in Brooks Aug. 27, the Lions continued their winning ways early in the season with a win over the Mustangs. Belfast won by a four-golfer stroke total of 218 to 256 for Mount View.

The individual results, with Belfast golfers listed first, were: Tommy Walker (50) beat John Clifford (64), Ryan Fitzjurls (57) beat Shawn VonOesen (63), Chance Clark (53) beat Miles Littlefield (64), Hunter Simmons (59) beat Josh Campbell (65), Anthine Brunette (58) beat Niamh Foley (79) and Dan Groening (64) beat Orla Foley (69).

Walker shot 50 to earn medalist honors.

Morse 9, Mount View 0

At the Bath Golf Club Aug. 24, the Shipbuilders set sail on the campaign with a shutout win over the Mustangs. Morse outshot Mount View with a four-golfer stroke total of 202 to 312.

The individual results, with Morse golfers listed first, were: Angus Brown (51) beat John Clifford (75), 5+4; Dom Marco (50) beat Josh Campbell (93), 5+4; Kaleb Jackson (42) beat Shawn VonOesen (72), 5+4; Wade Bradford (59) beat Miles Littlefield (72), 5+3; Gaige Kindlimann beat Orla Foley, 4+3; and Spencer Dahmen beat Caleb Raven, 3+2.

Jackson was the medalist at 42.

Belfast 8, Lincoln Academy 1

At Northport Golf Club Aug. 24, Belfast swung past the Eagles in the season-opening match. Belfast outshot Lincoln Academy with a four-golfer stroke total of 192 to 225.

The individual results, with Belfast golfers listed first, were: Tommy Walker defeated Quincy Perry, Ryan Fitzjurls beat Will Farrell, Chance Clark lost to Aidan McCullen, Hunter Simmons beat Christopher Prokopius, Anthine Brunette beat Aidan Gallagher and Daniel Groening beat Colin Bradbury.

Walker fired a 42 to earn medalist honors for Belfast.
