A 79-year-old Brooklin man died after jumping from the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Friday morning.

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said the man, whose name had not been released as of Sept. 4, jumped from the bridge at 10:15 a.m. His body was recovered from the Penobscot River.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Marine Patrol, Bucksport Police Department and Bucksport Fire Department assisted with the recovery efforts.

A Waldo County Sheriff's deputy at the scene Friday morning said the man stopped his car in the westbound lane of the bridge before he jumped. The deputy said the incident happened on the Hancock County side of the bridge, closer to Verona Island.
