Martha Eleanor Whitney Calderwood, 83, died Aug. 27, 2018 in Belfast, Maine.

Martha was born Sept. 7, 1934, in Augusta, the daughter of Bernard Justin Whitney and Lina Maude Mitchell.

She graduated from Cony High School in 1952, and the Eastern Maine Medical Center General School of Nursing in 1955.

She married Thomas W Calderwood in June 1956, in Augusta, and they settled in Bangor. While raising her children Martha worked at the Bangor-Brewer Tuberculosis and Health Center for many years and continued her education at the University of Maine at Orono and at Farmington.

After moving to Searsport, she worked at the Waldo County Hospital and volunteered at the Carver Memorial Library.

Martha is survived by her daughters, Hope and Jane Calderwood, both of Brunswick; her son Todd of Hinsdale, N.H.; daughter-in-law Michele Zinn; and grandsons Samuel Thomas and Benjamin Wayne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her sisters Elizabeth Sprague and Joanne Richardson.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas; her sisters, Patricia Dunn, Carrie Caswell, Roberta Perkins and Ruth Ranks; and her brothers, Justin, Thomas and John.

Funeral services for both Martha and Thomas Calderwood will be held at Searsport Congregational Church on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m.
