The Belfast and Mount View field hockey teams split high school games on Tuesday, Sept. 4 as the Lions swung to a 5-3 win over host Winslow and the Mustangs suffered a 4-1 loss against visiting Lawrence.

The following is a recap of both matches:

Belfast 5, Winslow 3

At Winslow Sept. 4, the Lions emerged with a two-goal victory over the Black Raiders. The squads were tied 1-1 at halftime.

Mallory Tibbetts scored two goals and added two assists and Lindsay Bruns two goals and one assist to lead the Lions, while Kayci Faulkingham (goal) and Hannah Banks (2 assists) also chipped in on offense.

Weslee Littlefield scored two goals and Silver Clukey one for Winslow, while Savannah Joler and Mariah Morrison logged assists.

Belfast held a 20-14 edge in shots, while Winslow finished with an 11-10 advantage in penalty corners.

Brooke Richards made seven saves in the cage for the Lions, while Leah Belotte made 12 saves in goal for the Black Raiders.

Tibbetts got the Lions on the board at the 20:57-mark, off an assist from Banks, while Clukey scored, after an assist from Joler, just over a minute later.

Tibbetts put Belfast ahead for good with 22:57 remaining off Bruns' assist, as Bruns padded the Lion lead minutes later, with an assist from Banks, with 19:05 remaining.

Lawrence 4, Mount View 1

At Thorndike Sept. 4, the Bulldogs prowled past the Mustangs to a three-goal win. Lawrence led 1-0 at halftime.

Sophia King scored, off an assist from Maddie Knowlton, while Lexi Lewis and Nora Buck scored twice for Lawrence and Elsie Suttie added an assist.

Buck put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 with 5:33 left in the first half, off an assist from Suttie, and the score stayed the same through halftime.

Lawrence got a second score from Buck with 16:55 left, though King’s goal from Knowlton with 12:01 remaining put Mount View’s deficit at one goal.

Lewis later banged the back of the cage with a pair of insurance goals for Lawrence.
