While the contests the Belfast and Mount View field hockey teams participated in on Thursday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 15 were miles apart in terms of final scores, the end results were the same as both Waldo County squads swung to a pair of wins.

The Lions posted a 14-0 win over Waterville and 11-0 triumph over Brewer — that is 25-0 in two games — in contests at Point Lookout in Northport, while the Mustangs swung to a pair of 2-1 wins over Brewer and Waterville.

Belfast 14, Waterville 0

At Point Lookout in Northport Sept. 15, the Lions went on the offensive in a big way and prowled past the Purple Panthers on the fast artificial turf. Belfast led 9-0 at halftime.

Leading the Belfast scoring attack were Lindsay Bruns (2 goals), Cassidy Clark (2 goals), Kiera Doolan (2 goals), Lauren Blood (2 goals), Kayci Faulkingham (goal), Hannah Banks (goal), Hannah Sanderson (goal), Amy Gaiero (goal), Mallory Tibbetts (goal) and Cassie Jackson (goal).

Belfast dominated with a 55-0 advantage in shots and 7-0 edge in penalty corners.

Brooke Richards and Madison Shorey split time in the cage for the Lions, while Yuliya Paquette made 30 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Belfast (5-1, 25.7143 points) is fifth, while Lawrence of Fairfield (5-1, 32.5510 points) is first in the 15-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Mount View 2, Brewer 1 (OT)

At Brewer Sept. 15, the Mustangs galloped past the host Witches in overtime. The squads were tied 1-1 at halftime.

Kate Bourgeois and Devon Burgess scored for Mount View, while Bourgeois and Sena Hayes logged assists. Emilie Ireland scored for the Witches.

Thurston Illingworth made one save on two shots in goal for the Mustangs, while Michaela Malchiodi made eight saves on 10 shots in the cage for the Witches.

In the jayvee game, Mount View and Brewer tied 2-2, as Alexa Coffin scored twice for the Mustangs.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Mount View (3-4, 8.2653 points) is third, while Winthrop (7-0, 38.1633 points) is first in the 11-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

Belfast 11, Brewer 0

At Point Lookout in Northport Sept. 13, the Lions swung past the Witches. Belfast led 7-0 at halftime.

Leading the Lion offense were Cassidy Clark (2 goals), Kiera Doolan (3 goals), Kayci Faulkingham (2 goals), Lindsay Bruns (goal), Lauren Blood (goal) and Maya Cunningham (goal).

Belfast held 49-4 edge in shots and  8-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Brooke Richards and Madison Shorey combined to make four saves in the cage for Belfast, while Michela Malchiodi made 24 saves in goal for Brewer.

Mount View 2, Waterville 1

At Thorndike Sept. 13, the hosts swung past the Purple Panthers. Mount View held a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Maddy Knowlton and Sophia King scored for Mount View, while Kate Bourgeois and Alexa Coffin added assists.

Thurston Illingworth made two saves on three shots in goal for the hosts, while Yuliya Paquette made 10 saves on 12 shots in the cage for the visitors.
