There is an electronic waste recycling opportunity coming up Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Belfast Rotary is sponsoring the event in the parking lot of the Belfast Public Works Department on Congress Street. They will be collecting computers, TVs, small appliances, etc., as well as personal documents for shredding and unwanted medications for disposal. All shredding will be done onsite. Property taxes are due Sept. 30. Tax payments can be made on the Town website,, with a credit card for a service fee of 2.5 percent of the total. You can also pay by mail. Please include property account number and a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want a receipt.

The Nov. 6 election will include several candidate races and six referendum questions. If you need to vote by absentee ballot, you can submit a request and a ballot will be mailed to you as soon as they are available. Requests may be made online using the link on the announcement page at, or come into the Town Office to complete an application.

The Searsmont Fire Department plans to host an open house and chicken barbecue at the new Fire House on Sunday, Oct. 14. Times, food costs, and activities are still in the planning stages, and more information will follow, but mark your calendars now so you don’t miss out on this fun (and tasty) event.

There will be a special town meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. in the Searsmont Community Building Meeting Room. The warrant includes actions regarding the sale of the old Fire House and sand/salt buildings, funding the new Fire House, and ordinances regarding the Planning Board and Board of Appeals. The warrant and articles will be posted on once they are signed.
