For National Video Games Day Sept. 12, a frozen yogurt store in Renys Plaza brought out both vintage and modern video games for the community to enjoy at a Family Night event.

Kyle Edgerly, manager of Belfast's sweetFrog for the last five months, said he has a "soft spot for video games."

When he heard about the national day for video game enthusiasts, he wanted to engage the community with games he grew up with and had in his collection. Some of the game consoles he has restored himself.

"It's been really great," Edgerly said. "And all these are games from my generation."

In total there were 13 video game systems available to play, including Nintendo Entertainment Systems, Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems, Nintendo 64s, Sega Genesis, Game Cubes, Nintendo Wii, X-box 1 and a Playstation 4 with Virtual Reality.

Games such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong, Speed Racer, Sonic 3, Diddy Kong Racing, Luigi's Mansion and The Legend of Zelda, among others, also were available to play.

Those curious about vintage games and hardcore gamers alike had plenty to choose from at the sweetFrog event.

Edgerly said a photo booth inside the store was "just for fun."

This is the first year sweetFrog has sponsored this event, but Edgerly said he would "love to make this a yearly affair."
