It was an eventful day for the Belfast and Mount View field hockey teams on Thursday, Sept. 20 as both high school squads swung to home victories.

The Lions, again playing on the artificial turf at Point Lookout in Northport, earned a 5-1 win over Morse of Bath, while the Mustangs bested Erskine Academy of South China 4-1 in Thorndike.

The following is a recap of both contests:

Belfast 5, Morse 1

At Northport Sept. 20, the Lions prowled to the top of the Class B North standings with a win over the Shipbuilders. Belfast led 3-0 at halftime.

Leading the Lion offense were Lindsay Bruns (goal, assist), Kayce Faulkingham (goal, 2 assists), Maya Cunningham (goal), Mallory Tibbetts (2 goals) and Amy Gaiero (assist).

Vanessa St. Pierre logged the lone goal for the Shipbuilders.

Belfast held a whopping 65-2 advantage in shots and 8-1 edge in penalty corners. Brooke Richards made two saves in the cage for the Lions, while Rebecca Click made 29 saves in goal for the Shipbuilders.

The jayvees also battled to a 1-1 tie.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Belfast (7-1, 51.7347 points) is first in the 15-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Mount View 4, Erskine Academy 1

At Thorndike Sept. 20, the Eagles soared to their fourth win of the campaign, this time over the Eagles. Mount View led 3-1 at halftime.

Leading the Mustang scoring attack were Devon Burgess (2 goals), Brianna Tripp (goal), Maddy Knowlton (goal) and Sophia King (assist).

Thurston Illingworth played in goal for the Mustangs and Lucy Allen for the Eagles.

In the jayvee game, Mount View won 2-0. Sena Hayes tallied a goal and assist for the Mustangs and Alexa Coffin a goal.
