A final reminder that the property tax due date is Sept. 30. Tax payments can be made on the town website,, via credit card. A credit card service fee of 2.5 percent of the total will be charged for these transactions. You can also pay by mail. Please include property account number and a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want a receipt.

The next election is Nov. 6. If you need an absentee ballot, you can submit a request and one will be mailed to you as soon as they are available. Requests may be made online using the link on the announcement page of, or come into the Town Office to complete an application.

The Searsmont Fire Department is planning to host an open house and chicken barbecue at the new Fire House on Sunday, Oct. 14. Times, food costs, and activities are still in the planning stages, and more information will follow, but mark your calendars now so you don’t miss out on this fun (and tasty) event.

There will be a special town meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. in the Searsmont Community Building Meeting Room. The warrant includes actions regarding the sale of the old Fire House and sand/salt buildings, funding the new Fire House, and ordinances regarding the Planning Board and Board of Appeals. The warrant and articles will be available at once they are signed and posted.

A celebration of Melvin Shure's life

Melvin Shure passed away on Sept. 1, 2018. Please join Mel's family at the Searsmont Community Center on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. for a celebration of Mel’s life. Mel was a witty and compelling storyteller, and in his memory we will be sharing stories from and about his 98 years. Refreshments will follow the stories.
