The small Searsport cross-country team was back in action on Friday, Sept. 21 as the six-runner Vikings — all boys — participated in the Seacost Invitational, hosted by Sumner High School.

In the 3.5-mile event, Katherine Bartlett of Shead won the girls race in 23:13 and Evan Merchand of Jonesport-Beals the boys race in 18:08.

There were 56 boys and 28 girls finishers.

The girls team scores were: George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 15 and Machias 40. Shead of Eastport, Sumner, Lee Academy, Narraguagus of Harrington, Calais, Bucksport and Deer Isle-Stonington also participated.

The boys team scores were: George Stevens Academy 22, Calais 64, Lee Academy 74, Bucksport 101, Machias 118 and Searsport 157. Jonesport-Beals, Narraguagus, Sumner, Bucksport, Deer Isle-Stonington and Shead also participated.

The individual Searsport boys results were: 34, Steven Courtney, 23:18; 40, Ellis Braga, 25:49; 41, Thomas Bradley, 26:31; 42, Andrew Donald, 26:32; 49, Caleb Fairbrother, 30:53; and 52, William Bradley, 33:20.
