The fourth annual "Run For Your Life" Stockton Springs Ambulance 5- and 12-kilometer road races took off on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The races began at the Stockton Springs Town Office and shifted onto Jellison Road. The 5K runners turned around and returned to the town office at a designated spot, while the 12K runners continued on to Lighthouse Road and to Fort Point Lighthouse before they returned to the town office.

Race director Jen Skala said there was a separate 5K which took place simultaneously, dubbed the Public Safety Challenge, in which police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and others in the field from throughout the state raced for bragging rights — and a trophy.

“The name of the person who won and the year goes on there and then it goes back to their station for that year,” she said. “Right now it’s over in Blue Hill, because that’s where the person who has won it the last two years is. So there’s a little bit of a fun animosity there that someone’s going to take it this year.”

Proceeds for the races benefit the Stockton Springs Ambulance’s equipment fund.
