Two cars collided shortly before noon Friday at the junction of Routes 203 and 131, resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles and minor injuries to both drivers.

State Police Trooper Connor Willard of Troop D said the driver of a Chevrolet Impala was pulling out of Pond Road (Route 203) and looked both ways, but failed to see a Honda Civic southbound on Waldo Station Road (Route 131) at about 11:45 a.m. The driver of the Civic tried to avoid the other car as it "pulled out prematurely," Willard said, but they collided and both ran off the road.

Airbags deployed in the Impala upon impact. The Civic skidded to the left off Route 131, traveled a few car lengths down a gravel lane and came to rest in a clump of bushes and small trees.

Belfast Ambulance and fire departments from Waldo, Morrill and Brooks responded. Both drivers said they would get their injuries checked out on their own, Willard said, so Belfast Ambulance left the scene early on. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Trooper Willard declined to release the identities of the two drivers. He said no charges would be filed.
