Marsh River Theater

The theater will close out its 21st season with the Tony Award-winning musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" Oct. 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m., starring Amanda Stover, Elena Donovan, Mike Switzer, Larry Wyman, Melissa McDonald, Bryan Spalding, Ethan Suderley and Monica Nelson. Call the box office at 722-4110 to reserve seats.

Brooks' second annual Trunk 'r Treat will be on Halloween night this year, Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bring your kids in costume and follow along from the Brooks Town Office to the train station. If you would like to give out candy, just bring your car and park between Town Hall and the Varney Building.

Last year the whole town seemed to be a buzz with kids and parents running around. It reminded me of Halloween in the '70s.

Beverly Ludden

I just wanted to take a moment and wish a speedy recovery for Bev Ludden of Jackson. I have heard she took ill this week and was in the hospital. I hope you feel better soon, Bev.

Afternoon Tea

The Ralph's Cafe Afternoon Tea fundraiser will be Sunday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m. at the Marsh River Theater. All proceeds will go to the Marsh River Theater. Adults $15 and children under 12 are $5. Call 722-3236 to reserve seats.

Marsh River Co-op

The Co-op is now open on Tuesday mornings! The new hours on Tuesday will now be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is hoping to also have longer hours on Monday in the coming weeks.

I know everyone is busy in life and it is hard to find time to even think of volunteering your time to something. But many groups in Brooks are looking for help — the Fire Department, Brooks Ambulance Service, the Marsh River Theater, the Co op, the Brooks Booster Club, the Historical Society.

All of these groups do wonderful things for our community and need some help getting things done. If you do have any free time and would like to help out, reach out to one of our many organizations today.
