Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference team and individual championships hung in the balance as nearly 500 high school cross-country runners from 26 schools — including a slew of Midcoast distance athletes — toed the line for races on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Cony.

And when the final competitor crossed the finish line at the end of the day's four races — two varsity and two junior varsity — in wet, cold, miserable conditions, the Midcoast certainly was well-represented, especially on the girls side.

The talented, deep Camden Hills girls defended their Class A title, while the Medomak Valley girls raced to second in Class B.

Individually, aarea athletes performed well in all the races.
