With postseason implications aplenty, the Mount View and Dexter/Piscataquis high school football teams squared off on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 13 as the teams jockeyed for a potential Class D North home playoff game.

And while the regular season is not over, the visiting Tigers took a step in that direction with a 24-6 victory over the host Mustangs.

Dexter/Piscataquis led 24-0 at halftime and held that advantage for the majority of the game before Mustang Jack Valleau got free on about a 70-yard run — which led to a short touchdown run by James Thompson — with 2:42 remaining in the game.

Caleb Weeks, Cameron Paige, Parker Ponte and Gage Stones scored touchdowns for visiting Dexter/Piscataquis.

Offensively, the Mustangs were paced by Jack Valleau (165 rushing yards), Kyle Noble (60 rushing yards), Brady Moulton (22 rushing yards), Garrett Smith (4 rushing yards) and James Thompson (8 rushing yards). Moulton also completed a 13-yard pass to Thompson.

Leading the Mount View defense were Moulton (9 assisted tackles), Oliver Purinton-Brown (3 assists), Smith (3 solo tackles, 4 assists, sack), Jack Valleau (4 quarterback sacks, 3 solos, 10 assists), Dyllan Anderson (solo, 3 assists), Noble (2 solos, 6 assists), Sam Valleau (solo, 3 assists), Joe Lepore (solo, 5 assists, sack), Jacob Nelson (3 solos, 5 assists, sack), Eric Braley (2 assists), Mark Ward (4 solos, 5 assists), Jason Wood (assist), Gabe Gagnon (5 solos, 11 assists, 3 sacks), Hayden Hunt (solo, 4 assists), Colby Ingraham (4 assists), Will Turner (3 assists), Paul Nadeau (2 solos, 6 assists, 2 sacks) and James Thompson (5 solos, 6 assists, sack).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class D North, Mount View (4-3, 32.5000 points) is fifth, while Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft (7-0, 143.7500 points) is first in the 10-team region. The top six teams qualify for the playoffs.
