One of the oldest adages in sports is it is hard to beat an opponent three times in a season.

That fact hit No. 3 Mount View hard on Saturday, Oct. 20 in its Class C North semifinal playoff game against No. 2 Dexter, particularly given the fact the Mustangs had outscored the Tigers 5-0 in two regular-season victories.

The ‘Stangs took an early 1-0 lead, but the Tigers knotted the score before halftime and got the game-winner with 4:44 left in regulation from Kiana Bennett as the hosts earned a hard-fought, 2-1 victory.

With the win, Dexter (12-4) advances to the Class C North championship game, where it will face top-ranked Winthrop (15-1), which beat No. 8 Boothbay Region 5-1 and No. 5 Orono (score unavailable) previously in the playoffs.

Dexter also defeated No. No. 7 Stearns/Schenck 2-1 in the playoffs.

Mount View saw its season conclude at 10-6.

In Saturday's game, Brianna Tripp scored with 18:34 left in the first half for Mount View, while Bennett and Kassandra Gray scored for Dexter, as Gray and Tory Asbury logged assists.

Thurston Illingworth made three saves on five shots in the cage for Mount View, while Amanda Haskell made one save on two shots in goal for Dexter.

The Tigers also held a 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.

“[We] played well and played hard for the entire game,” said Mount View coach Gloria Hewett. “They never let up the pressure. We had the ball in and around the goal cage several times, but just couldn't seem to put it into the cage. We were pretty evenly-matched and both teams wanted the win.”

Mount View reached the regional semifinals with a 2-0 quarterfinal playoff victory over No. 6 Maranacook of Readfield.
