Editor's note: We were saddened to learn from Beverly Ludden's family that she is ill and will no longer be able to write Jackson News for The Republican Journal, as she has done for more years than we can remember.

Our sincere thanks to Beverly for her steadfast dedication to this task over the years, first delivering her weekly handwritten reports to us and later sending them courtesy of helpers Debbie Ludden and Lisa Larrabee, who kindly typed up Beverly's notes and emailed them to us. Our thanks to Debbie and Lisa for their weekly efforts, and our very best wishes to Beverly for a full recovery.

Following is a report from our new Jackson correspondent, April Orcutt Small, who has assumed responsibility for Jackson town news at the request of Beverly and her family.

I would like to introduce myself as the new town columnist for the town of Jackson. I grew up in Jackson and my husband and I have recently moved back home. We have taken up residence with my mother, Gloria Orcutt.

If you have any news that you would like put in the column, I need to receive it before noon on Friday and it will appear in the next week's paper. The best way to contact me would be by email at ajsmall66@gmail.com or phone at 722-3652.

So far I have received the following news:

There will be a Spaghetti Supper held by the veterans of Jackson and Brooks at the Varney Building on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. They ask for goodwill donations at the door.

Also, anyone having any damaged or unusable flags can bring them at this time for a future flag burning on or around Veterans Day.

Congratulations go out to Alan and Amy Orcutt on their recent purchase of the Western View Golf Course in Augusta. It not only has a nine-hole course, but it also has a pub and dining facility and an entertainment venue that can be booked for weddings and events.

I don't have contact information, but probably Alan could be reached on Facebook @ Alan Lee Orcutt. We wish him well on this new life adventure.
