With the win, MCI (8-1) advances to the semifinals, where it will face No. 4 Nokomis of Newport (5-4), a 38-6 quarterfinal winner No. 5 Medomak Valley (4-5), on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the regional semifinals.

Belfast saw its season wrap at 2-7.

After a three-and-out, on a punt attempt, Belfast snapped the ball out of the end zone to give MCI a safety and 2-0 lead with 9:08 to play.

Then, on MCI’s next possession, Sharples evaded a few Lion tacklers and, after a move, rushed 35 yards for a touchdown as the hosts continued to pour it on with 4:06 to play. Friend then rushed in the two-point conversion to make the score 16-0.
