With Islesboro Central School's announcement that it would not have varsity basketball teams for the 2018-19 winter season due to lack of players, the ripple affect has forced three Midcoast schools — Searsport, North Haven and Vinalhaven — to make subsequent changes to their schedules.

Searsport replaced games with Islesboro with contests against Shead of Eastport. Both meetings will be doubleheaders as the Vikings will hit the road to face the Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 5, as the girls game tips off at 1 p.m. and boys at 2:30 p.m. The opponents again will face off on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Searsport, as the boys play at 1 p.m. and the girls at 2:30 p.m.

North Haven had three games scheduled against Islesboro this season on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19 and Wednesday, Jan. 23. The Hawks were able to get two of the three lost games replaced with other contests.

The Hawks will host Temple Academy of Waterville on Monday, Jan. 14, as the girls tip off at 11:30 a.m. and boys at 1 p.m.

The Hawk girls also will play a Tuesday, Dec. 18 home game against Pine Tree Academy of Freeport at 11:30 a.m., while the Hawk boys will face Penobscot Bay-rival Vinalhaven on Friday, Feb. 1 at 4:30 p.m.

The Vinalhaven boys had two games scheduled against Islesboro — on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2 — but those have been replaced with one game against North Haven, which will be played on Friday, Feb. 1 at 4:30 p.m.

Those teams also will play their previously-scheduled game on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. at NHCS.

The Vinalhaven girls were not scheduled to face Islesboro this season.
