It was a difficult night on the high school basketball courts for Belfast on Tuesday, Dec. 11 as the Lions were dealt losses by the Winslow Black Raiders.

The girls fell to the defending state Class B champions 74-31 in Belfast, while the boys were dealt a 63-46 defeat in Winslow.

Additionally, on Monday, Dec. 10, the Searsport girls were edged by visiting Deer Isle-Stonington 41-39.

Girls basketball

Winslow 74, Belfast 31

At Belfast Dec. 11, the Lions could not keep pace with the defending Class B champs and fell by a lopsided score. Winslow led 24-9, 46-18 and 62-22 at the quarter breaks.

Junne Robertson-McIntire and Sydni Moores scored seven points for Belfast, while Lillie Mitchell added five; Hannah Banks and Madison Farris, three; and Grace Fitzjurls, Kayci Faulkingham and Kiara Doolan, two.

Bodhi Littlefield led Winslow with 15 points, while Paige Trask and Weslee Littlefield added 13; Silver Clukey, nine; Lauren Roy, eight; Maeghan Bernard, six; Grace Smith and Olivia McCaslin, four; and Jenna Veilleux, two.

The Lions finished 13-of-21 (62 percent) from the foul line, while the Black Raiders were 20-of-26 (77 percent).

Deer Isle-Stonington 41, Searsport 39

At Searsport Dec. 10, the Mariners rallied to eek out a two-point win over the Vikings. The teams were knotted 14-14 after the first quarter, while Searsport led 28-23 at halftime and 32-28 after three quarters.

Makenzie Alley led Searsport with 15 points, while Mikaela Alley added 13; Ashten Wells, seven; and Casey Snow, four.

Lily Gray led Deer Isle-Stonington with 13 points, while Taylor Hardy added 12; Rylee Eaton, seven; Katie Hutchinson, five; and Kaylee Morey, four.

The Vikings were 10-of-20 (50 percent) from the free-throw line, while the Mariners were 5-of-8 (62 percent).

Searsport netted one 3-pointer by Mikaela Alley, while the Mariners hit four — three by Gray and one from Eaton.

Boys basketball

Winslow 63, Belfast 46

At Winslow Dec. 11, the Lions were bested by the Black Raiders. Winslow led 24-11, 37-19 and 54-26 at the quarter breaks.

Chris Kelley led Belfast with 10 points, while Jason Bartlett and Max Lewis added nine; Wilder MacGruder, seven; Luke Lightner, six; Andrew Akles and Grady Doolan, two; and Ethan Hall, one.

Colby Pomeroy pumped in 22 points for Winslow, while Justin Laflamme and Cameron Winslow added 13; Jacob Bisson, seven; Sebastian York, six; and Kevin Ware and Jacob Berard, two.

The Lions were 7-of-14 (50 percent) from the foul line, while the Black Raiders were 9-of-14 (64 percent).

The Lions netted one 3-pointer by MacGruder, while the Black Raiders connected on four, two by Pomeroy and Winslow.
