We have two people running for road commissioner this year. Elwin Boynton and Harland Gamble have both taken out nomination papers for the post. Another office coming up for election in March is for selectman, and Capt. Joe Rego has taken out papers for the position.

If there is anyone else who would like to run for either position, nomination papers are available now at the Town Office. In order to get on the March ballot, you need 25 signatures of registered voters residing in Prospect. Nomination papers are due back on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, by 7 p.m. We are still seeking an Appeals Board member, it’s a once-a-year meeting and the Appeals Board is not typically called on often for use in our town.

The Town Office will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 25, for Christmas Day. On Friday, Dec. 28, the Town Office will be closing at 2 p.m. for end-of-year processing. On Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, the Town Office will be closed for New Year’s Day.

The selectmen will hold the first selectmen’s meeting on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m., followed by a public hearing at 7 p.m. for the extension of the mining moratorium. Tuesday the 29th of January will be our annual budget meeting at the Town Office at 7 p.m.

The Community Club brought a box full of handmade mittens and hats to the Town Office. If anyone is in need of some warm winter gear, please come by to browse the box. It looks like there are some hats made small enough for children and some large enough for adults. Added donations to the box are welcomed as well. Please only bring items that are clean and in good repair.

I am thinking unless any new information and events occur, this will be the last town news column I write until after the holidays. So happy holidays everyone! See you in the New Year.
