The Belfast wrestling team trekked to the Maine mountains for the Franklin Savings Bank Classic on Saturday, Dec. 15 as the Lions finished 11th among 22 squads at the end of the day-long event.

Mount Ararat/Brunswick finished first with 108.5 points, while the Lions collected 30 points and got a second-place finish from Patrick Curtis in the 152-pound class and Jonah Lovejoy placed third at 138.

The individual Belfast results, with Lion wrestlers listed first, were:

106 pounds — Connor Fournier was pinned by Jake Emond, EA, at 4:34; and was pinned by Matt Kennard, Mad, at 4:20.

120 pounds — Timmy Smith lost to Matt Myles, MountVal, 14-7; and was pinned by Rico Ayala, Fox, at 2:31.

138 pounds — Jonah Lovejoy pinned Caleb Johnson, OxH, at 4:41; was pinned by Caden Kowalsky, MtA/B, at 2:08; pinned Eddie Plessinger, Frye, at 1:40; and beat Caleb Johnson, OxH, 13-1, in the consolation final. Lovejoy finished third.

145 pounds — Chris Fournier lost to Jacob Diamond, Fox, 17-1; and was pinned by David Pelletier, Dir, at 2:21.

152 pounds — Patrick Curtis pinned Devin Chase, Wells, at 0:41; pinned Dillon Worster, OxH, at 1:31; and was pinned by Ben Lawrence, MtA/B, at 3:58 in the championship final. Curtis finished second.

170 pounds — Nathaniel Porter was pinned by Hunter Robichaud, Buck, at 1:35; and lost to Nick Taylor, Ells, 8-4.

182 pounds — Jason Norwood pinned Chase Nelson, Dir, at 1:18; was pinned by Cam Bourget, Lis/OaH, at 5:30; and was pinned by Nathan Curtis, Wells, at 1:11.

285 pounds — Gage Newcombe was pinned by Anthony Sanborn, EA, at 2:15; pinned Braeden MacNeil, Wells, at 0:58; and was pinned by Archill Shonia, York/Traip, at 0:30.
