The Montville Town Office will be closing at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve) and also Monday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve). There are no selectmen meetings scheduled for either date.

The Liberty Library is looking for mitten-makers! Larger mittens for Walker School and smaller sizes for Headstart. There is a Simple 2-needle mitten pattern for different sizes at http://liberty.lib.me.us/knit/. If you need help, knitters get together on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. at the library and they would be delighted to help. The kids do not care about what they look like as long as they keep their hands warm. Both organizations say the need is great and they appreciate the mittens.

You can now text 911, but please do so only in emergencies. The Maine Public Utilities Commission urges Mainers to keep the following in mind if they send a text to 911:

– The texting option should only be used when making a voice call to 911 is not an option.

– Using a phone to call 911 is still the most efficient way to get emergency help.

– Providing location information and the nature of the emergency in the first text message is imperative, since the 911 texts will not receive the location of the cell phone.

– Text abbreviations or slang should never be used so that the intent of the dialogue can be as clear as possible.

– No pictures, video, or other attachments can be sent with these emergency communications.

Best wishes for the New Year!
