One lives by the three or dies by the three, and Sumner of East Sullivan put that saying to the test against Searsport on Thursday night, Jan. 3 — as the former rang true for the visitors.

The Tigers swished eight 3-pointers, almost half of the visitors total points, in a 51-40 high school boys basketball win over the home-standing Vikings.

Sumner led 12-6 after the first quarter, 25-17 at halftime and 43-28 after three stanzas.

Colby Snow led Searsport with 16 points, while Isaiah Runci added 10; Josh Wright, six; Charlie Spinney and George Dakin, three; and Aaron Wiley, two.

Colby McLean keyed the Tigers, and all scorers, with 21 points, as Ethan Young scored 14; Kyle Brooks, nine; Aidan Weaver, three; and Dylan Bernier and Simon Torrey, two.

The Vikings connected on five treys, as Snow hit two, and Runci, Wright and Dakin connected on one.

Brooks led the Tigers as he hit three treys, while McLean and Young swished two and Weaver one.

Searsport was 9-of-16 (56 percent) from the foul line and Sumner 1-of-15 (6 percent).

In the Maine Principal's Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Searsport (3-4, 8.4799 points) is ninth, while Houlton (6-1, 21.7901 points) is first in the 20-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.
