Several mailboxes were plowed down along Main Street following Wednesday night's snowstorm.

According to Searsport Police Chief Richard LaHaye, a Maine Department of Transportation plow truck driver took out at least 12 mailboxes sometime after midnight on Route 1.

Police interviewed the driver and an eyewitness at the scene and determined the wing of the plow did not have a light on it.

Maine DOT will "take care of the issue," LaHaye said.

A spokeman for the Searsport MDOT location who declined to give his name said it was driver inexperience that caused the damage. He said Maine DOT would replace the mailboxes.
