The Belfast and Mount View high school basketball teams will have an uphill climb the rest of the season if any of the four Waldo County squads hope to play their way into postseason contention.

In games played on Monday, Jan. 21, all four teams came out on the losing end as the Lions were downed by Winslow and Mount View by Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft.

Boys

Foxcroft Academy 63, Mount View 53

At Thorndike Jan. 21, the Ponies penned in the host Mustangs. Foxcroft Academy led 12-8, 27-20 and 47-34 at the quarter breaks.

Draedyn Furrow scored 15 points for the Mustangs, while Neal Kenney added 12; Brennan Grant, 11; Sean Raven, seven; Declan Knowlton and Matt Overlock, three; and Kyle Noble, two.

Hyatt Smith scored 16 points for the Ponies, while Jeremy Richard and Jediah Dean, 12; Matt Spooner, 11; Samuel Spooner-Weeks, eight; and Lucas Ames, four.

Mount View was 9-of-12 (75 percent) from the foul line, while Foxcroft Academy was 7-of-19 (37 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (1-12, 3.5185 points) is 16th, while Hermon (13-0, 109.6296 points) is first in the 16-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Winslow 62, Belfast 58

At Belfast Jan. 21, the Black Raiders stayed a step ahead of the Lions throughout the game and netted a four-point win. Winslow led 20-14, 33-26 and 48-39 at the quarter breaks.

Jason Bartlett scored 18 points for Belfast, while Dakota Payson added 13; Chris Kelley, 12; Wilder Magruder, seven; Grady Doolan, six; and Luke Lightner and Tommy Walker, two.

Colby Pomeroy scored 28 points for Winslow, while Justin Laflamme added 16; Isaiah Goldsmith, six; Jacob Bisson, five; and Ethan Lachance, Sebastian York and Cameron Winslow, two.

The Lions were 26-of-33 (79 percent) from the foul line, while the Black Raiders were 17-of-25 (68 percent).

Winslow 66, Belfast 21

At Winslow Jan. 21, the defending state Class B champions held the Lions to one first-quarter field goal and picked up the lopsided victory. Winslow led 22-2, 36-6 and 57-17 at the quarter breaks.

Grace Fitzjurls scored eight points for Belfast, while Madison Farris added four; Lillie Mitchell, three; and Sydni Moores and Kayci Faulkingham, two.

Bodhi Littlefield scored 16 points for Winslow, Weslee Littlefield added 11; Paige Trask, 10; Hailey Grenier, eight; Silver Clukey, seven; Maeghan Bernard, six; Jennifer Ferry and Lauren Roy, three; and Grace Smith, two.

The Lions were 1-of-4 (25 percent) from the foul line, while the Black Raiders were 9-of-14 (64 percent).

At Dover-Foxcroft Jan. 21, the Ponies held the Mustangs at arm's-length and galloped to a win. Foxcroft Academy led 6-3, 15-14 and 27-19 at the quarter breaks.

Hannah Coolen scored 15 points for the Mustangs, while Shala Davis added eight; Alex Fountain, three; and Sophia King, two.

Mackenzie Beadry netted 13 points for the Ponies, while Ainsley Ade added nine; Jenna Anderson, six; Cassidy Marsh, five; and Cailin Seavey, two.

Mount View was 9-of-15 (60 percent) from the charity stripe, while Foxcroft Academy was 7-of-16 (44 percent).
