Town Office

If you’re reading this message after Jan. 31 and haven’t yet registered your dog or paid your 2018 taxes, you blew it. Dog owners should be prepared to pay the $25 per-dog late fee when you come to register your dog next week, or be prepared to face the wrath of the Animal Control Officer. (Just kidding, she’s really very nice, but firm — like the retired substitute teacher you had in grade school who seemed so intimidating.)

Jan. 31 is the end of the town’s fiscal year, and the names of those with unpaid taxes as of that date will be printed in the Town Report. Check with the Town Office if you need more information on your account balance.

Those with unpaid property taxes should be prepared to see their names in print, as state law requires all names of those with unpaid property taxes to be printed in the Town Report.

Searsmont Fire and Rescue are looking for Volunteer Fire and First Responders. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions, please call the Town Office to leave your name and telephone number. We will have the fire or rescue chief contact you.

The selectmen are working on the budget in preparation for town meeting. The department head meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Town Office. The town budget meeting, where the selectmen present the proposed budget to the residents, is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Searsmont Community Building meeting room.

Searsmont Town Library

Board Game Night at the library is now every Thursday at 4 p.m. Bring friends or meet some new people and play from our selection of games. LEGO Building Group meets on Fridays, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Look out for new events and a new thematic display in February! Music listening hour (Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at noon) in February will feature jazz masterworks.

Searsmont Memorial Day Parade

The annual Searsmont Memorial Day Parade is on Monday, May 27. We welcome anyone who wants to help organize the parade, which is possibly the largest Memorial Day parade in Waldo County!

We especially need folks who are comfortable climbing ladders and doing some work a few days prior to the 27th and on parade day as well. Anyone is welcome to march, drive or cartwheel in the parade.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office. If you have any questions, email or call Jan Geller at or 917-710-5460.
