The big rain came today as forecast; it has caused major issues with roads, as culverts were plugged with ice and the ground is too frozen to absorb the rain and melting snow. We will have to assess tomorrow to see how much damage was done. This will also seriously affect the snowmobile trails until we get another snowstorm.

The Snow Dusters' annual chicken barbecue will be held Sunday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at the clubhouse on the Fisher Road. You don't have to be a snowmobiler to enjoy a half-chicken, potato salad, baked beans and more.

Coming up: Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m., Comprehensive Plan meeting Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m. The Budget Committee meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. All meetings are open to the public.

The 2019 Freedom Academy/Unifree High School Alumni Scholarship form is available on the Freedom Academy Maine and Unifree High School Maine Facebook pages. All alumni grandchildren and great-grandchildren are eligible for the two $500 awards.

Mammie's Country Kitchen will be having karaoke Saturday, Feb. 2, starting at 6 p.m. with Holly Parker. Grab a bite to eat and sing a tune or just go to support those who do.

Keeping Bob Ferreira in our thoughts as he recently underwent surgery in Boston and is still recovering there. Jerry and Linda Parker also have had health issues recently and we wish them a speedy recovery.

Deepest condolences to the family and friends of Alton "Dan" French who passed away Jan. 10. He had been a member of several civic and town groups and will be missed.
