The post office at Lincolnville Beach was closed for a few hours Saturday morning, Jan. 26, as a hazardous materials team inspected the building after an employee fell ill while sorting mail.

The incident occurred at about 8 a.m. The employee reported feeling ill and a Northeast Mobile Health ambulance was called to respond.

As a precaution, a hazardous materials team from the Waldo County Emergency Management Agency responded and went inside the building with sensors to determine if there was a hazardous material that caused the employee's illness.

Lincolnville Fire Chief Don Fullington III said this was done as a precaution and the employee was feeling better. Shortly after 10 a.m., the post office was reopened.

Fullington said that the odor could have come from perfume or potpourri in a package, but that is not certain.
