The Mount View High School cheering squad finished 14th among 15 teams in the Class B North championship competition on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Mustangs of Thorndike, guided by head coach Carol Bryant and assistant coaches Julie Aspinall and Cindy Lufkin, include Makayla Brown, Emily Lancaster, Madison Magnant, Olivia McPherson, Emily Moulton, Alyvia Ripley, Kaylee Corson, Shauna Randall, Jensen Aspinall, Sabryna Bailey, Shyanne Durand and Emma McPherson.

The Class B North team results, with the scores of the four judges and total listed (along with deductions), were: Ellsworth, 23.2, 22.1, 20.3 and 22.6 for 88.2; Hermon, 22.1, 20.1, 21 and 22.3 for 85.5; Old Town, 14.5, 18.9, 20.5 and 18.6 for 72.5; Presque Isle, 14, 20.3, 19.4 and 16.4 for 70.1; Mount Desert Island, 13.2, 17.3, 19.5 and 16.2 for 66.2; John Bapst of Bangor, 12.4, 17.3, 19.6 and 16.9 for 66.2; Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft, 12.1, 15, 18.2 and 13.8 for 59.1; Erskine Academy of South China, 11, 16.8, 15.7 and 14.9 for 58.4; Winslow, 10.5, 13.5, 14.6 and 14.3 for 52.9; Caribou, 9.1, 13.1, 14.2 and 15.5 for 51.9; Gardiner, 10.2, 13.3, 13.3 and 14.4 for 51.2; Waterville, 10.5, 11, 16.8 and 16.1 (plus a 5-point deduction) for 49.4; Washington Academy of East Machias, 10.3, 9.6, 13.7 and 14.9 for 48.5; Mount View, 8.2, 12.3, 14.5 and 13 for 48; and Nokomis of Newport, 8.7, 9.8, 12.6 and 14. 4 for 45.5.

The Class B South team results (held the same day at the Augusta Civic Center), with the scores of the four judges and total listed (along with deductions), were: Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, 21.5, 18, 20.6 and 23.9 for 84; Leavitt of Turner, 16.5, 17. 20.5 and 17.4 for 71.4; Morse of Bath, 11.8, 14.8, 17.9 and 18.1 for 62.6; Gray New-Gloucester, 14.5, 13.7, 18.3 and 14.9 for 61.4; Spruce Mountain of Jay, 11.9, 15.6, 18.7 and 13.9 for 60.1; Freeport, 11.5, 13.5, 17.5 and 12.5 for 55; Mountain Valley of Rumford, 10.5, 14.5, 18.3 and 11.4 for 54.7; Wells, 10.9, 14, 14.5 and 13 (plus a 5-point deduction) for 47.4; Oak Hill of Sabattus, 10.1, 10.6, 15.9 and 10.6 for 47.2; Lake Region of Bridgton, 9.6, 10.3, 9.8 and 10.7 (plus a 5-point deduction) for 35.4; and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, 8.3, 7.8, 13.2 and 9.9 (plus a 5-point deduction) for 34.2.

The state Class B competition will be on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Augusta Civic Center.

The top six teams from the South and North regional competitions qualified for the states.

Thus, from the South, Medomak Valley, Leavitt, Morse, Gray-New Gloucester, Spruce Mountain and Freeport move on, while, in the North, also determined from a 15-team field on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Ellsworth, Hermon, Old Town, Presque Isle, Mount Desert Island and John Bapst advance.

Hermon has been a dynasty in the sport, as the Hawks now have captured nine of the past 12 state Class B titles (2018, 2017, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2009), while Poland won in 2008 and 2010 and Old Town in 2016.
