Hello to All,

Well, it is late as I do this, I have a bad cold, and feel just awful, but the news needs to be typed up. I have folks looking forward to my column. How do I know this? They tell me all the time. Thanks to all.

It has been better, sunshine today, and snow coming on, but not much. Then we will start to get warmer days I hope. It sounds good, anyway.

Town meeting

Our town meeting was today, but have not heard any particulars about it. Galen and Bruce were running for 1st and 2nd selectman. Stay tuned.

Winter in Florida

Many folks have been going to Florida and the islands to escape the cold. Good for them. Youngsters have had trips to the Magical Disney World.


Our condolences to the Downer family on the loss of Milford Downer. He will be missed. He is the son of the late Fremont and Genevieve Downer. Thinking of his wife Gail.

Pancake Breakfast coming up

The Freedom Congregational Church will be hosting a breakfast on Saturday, March 16, at 7 a.m. The men are cooking up a hearty breakfast. Come join in.

Mount View grad

Adrienne Shibles is the New England Small College Athletic Conference Coach of the year. She led the Polar Bears of Bowdoin to an undefeated season. This is her 11th season as head coach at Bowdoin and she is the winningest coach at 249-64. She played her college basketball at Bates College, and her high school basketball at Mount View. Congrats to her.

Maple Sunday Weekend

It is Mar. 23 and 24th, check for times, Beaver Hill Plantation is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Benefit Supper for a Little Feller

On March 16, 4 to 8 p.m. at Dockside for Collin McCormick who is 4 years old. He has to have multiple surgeries. A raffle is being held. Contact Darlene Ginn for info, and donations may be sent to her at P.O. Box 41, Brooks, ME 04921, if you so wish.


Ralph's Cafe is coming along slowly with the renovations from the water damage; he hopes to be open by the first part of April. Good luck to all of them.

Found in the roadway, did you lose anything?

A stainless steel bottom drawer to a newly purchased oven or grill on your way home, Wednesday night, March 6? It was in the road on 220/Route 139 between the Thorndike Town Office and Post Office. It was posted as 139, but that is 220 there. It still has the blue protective film wrap on it. Hannah Rose Hamilton, a farmer at Buckle Farm, has it; she posted on Facebook so am passing it along.

On March 7 at 1:49 a.m., Ryleigh Ellen Wren was born weighing 5 lbs. 3 oz. She is 18 1/4 inches long. Her big sister Raven welcomed her to the family along with her parents, Darren Wren and Brittany Raven. Congrats to all the family. There are some pretty excited grandparents, too.

This coming June

Bob Marley, the famous comedian, who we have heard of will be performing at Mount View High School on June 22 at 6:30 p.m. Get tickets soon. Visit


They are busy getting the soil ready, planting, and getting ready for the spring season. Time to get them transplanted I am told. This is a lot of work. So nice spring is soon to be here.

Knox Booster Club

In November new officers were chosen, President Rachel Nelson, Vice President Kerry Merrifield, Treasurer John Wentworth, and Secretary Kathy Bryant. Good luck in all that you do.

American Legion Auxiliary Fourth District

The meeting for March 10 is cancelled as we are getting snow, and will be held on March 24 at 1 p.m. at Oakland Post 51. Come out, ladies, to see what is going on with our member units.

Town Office

Our tax collector and treasurer, and registrar of voters is Heather Carnes.
