Town Office

Mud season is here, and the gravel roads have taken a beating. Although they are already posted, most have now been closed to any traffic other than residents. Please heed the signs.

The transfer station has been moved to the Community Building parking lot for disposal of trash only — no recyclables — on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We have been busy preparing for town meeting. The annual Town Report is at the printer, and should be available the week preceding the meeting. The meeting takes place on Saturday, April 6, at 9 a.m. in the Community Building meeting room. Come early for coffee and doughnuts.

Evelyn Defrees has submitted her resignation as Regional School Unit 71 school board representative, effective April 6, because of a new job and resulting schedule conflicts. We thank Evie for her service on the board the last several years. Catherine Robbins-Halstead has been appointed Interim RSU 71 school board representative to serve from April 6 to June 30.

A school board representative to serve the next three-year term, from July 1 to June 30, 2022, will be elected at town meeting.

Registration for pre-K

It is time for 4-year-old children (who will be 4 on or before Oct. 15, 2019) living in the RSU 71 school district to be registered for pre-K. To register children who live in the town of Belmont, Morrill or Searsmont who will attend the Gladys Weymouth School, call Kay Dodd at 342-5200 or 342-5300.

Searsmont Town Library

The energetic maritime traditional band, The Oystermen, have been rescheduled (previously April 28) to play at the Searsmont Town Library on Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. Mark your calendars; you don't want to miss these guys!

Our next Lite Lunch will be on Friday, March 29, at 12:15 p.m. We’ll be serving oven-roasted chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, fresh fruit and something sweet for dessert. Lunch will be served in the upstairs lobby of the Searsmont Community Center, and coffee will be served in the library following lunch with music, games, puzzles and good conversation.

Please RSVP to me by calling 342-2538, and leave a message so that we have an idea of how many people plan to attend. (You can also sign up at the library.) If you need transportation to and from the library, let us know and we will do our best to arrange transport.

Join us for a Tuesday Movie Matinee every Tuesday at 2 p.m., and on Saturdays, The Muppet Show will be shown at 10 a.m., followed by creative play — suggested ages 4 to 7 years old, accompanied by an adult.
