The Pro All-Star Series (PASS) North season began on Sunday, April 7 as Travis Benjamin of Morrill, as he usually does, racked up a top-10 finish in the PASS North & National Championship Super Late Model 75-lap race at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

Benjamin, who won his final race of the season in October and finished second overall to D.J. Shaw of Center Conway, N.H. for the PASS North title last season, finished eighth among 21 drivers.

Shaw finished first in Sunday’s race.

Shaw, seeking a third series title this year, used the outside groove to reclaim the lead from Derek Griffith of Hudson, N.H. It was a reversal of fortunes for the top two finishers, as Griffith bested Shaw in last year’s opener at New England’s fastest short track.

Ray Christian of Unacasville, Conn., Johnny Clark of Farmingdale and Jake Johnson of Rehoboth, Mass. rounded out the top five racers.

The next PASS North event is set for Sunday, April 14 at Oxford Plains Speedway.
