The Regional School Unit 3 Board of Directors on Tuesday named Charles Brown the new district superintendent.

According to an RSU 3 press release, the board "unanimously" elected Brown at its meeting April 22. He will succeed Dr. Paul Austin, who has been named superintendent of the Hingham, Massachusetts, public schools.

Brown currently is principal of Mount View Elementary School. Prior to coming to RSU 3, he served as principal/athletic director at Regional School Unit 78 in Rangeley, and as an assistant principal at MSAD 6 in Buxton. In addition, he has 13 years of experience as a classroom teacher.

Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of Maine at Farmington, master's degrees in administration and supervision and in curriculum and instruction from University of Phoenix, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in educational leadership. He has taken additional course work from Endicott College and the University of Maine.

According to the RSU 3 website, Brown is a member of the Maine Principal’s Association, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and The School Superintendent’s Association.

On the website, Brown describes himself as "an avid soccer official" outside his educational work, officiating soccer from youth through top amateur professional development leagues, and high school through college levels.

RSU 3 includes Monroe Elementary, Morse Memorial Elementary, Mount View Elementary, Mount View Middle School, Mount View High School, Troy Elementary, Unity School and Walker Elementary.
