A thrilling, unforgettable walk-off home run from Belfast baseball and nearly 30 runs plated by Searsport softball were the highlights on the diamonds for Waldo County high school squads on Thursday, April 25 as the Lion squads — in addition to Viking softball — were in action.

Lion baseball posted a 5-2 win, while softball fell 15-5 to Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Searsport softball also came away with a lopsided 28-0, five-inning win over Bangor Christian.

Baseball

Belfast 5, Lincoln Academy 2

At Belfast April 25, Dylan Abbott belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap off a five-run rally in the final frame as the Lions roared past the Eagles. Lincoln Academy scored runs in the first and sixth innings.

In addition to Abbott’s three-run home run, Tanner Veilleux (run), Jason Bartlett (2 hits, 2 RBIs, run), Dakota Payson (hit, run), Samuel Davis (hit) and Brandon Cournoyer (hit, run) led Belfast at the plate.

For Lincoln Academy, Joe Giberson (run), Tiger Cumming (hit, RBI), Quincy Perry (2 hits, run), Nick Prior (hit), Nathan True (hit, RBI) and Tristam Sanborn (hit) paced the offense.

Chris Kelley pitched for Belfast, as he allowed six hits and two walks, with eight strikeouts. Sullivan Fink, True and Cumming pitched for Lincoln Academy, as the trio allowed six hits and seven walks, with six strikeouts.

Softball

Searsport 28, Bangor Christian 0 (5 inns.)

At Bangor April 25, the Vikings went on the offensive — and then some — with a lopsided win over the Patriots. Searsport scored eight run  in the first inning, six in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth and 10 in the fifth.

Leading the Vikings at the plate were Madison Young (single, 2 runs, RBI), Mikaela Alley (single, 3 runs, RBI), Kyla Perkins (run), Jenna Keach (3 singles, double, home run, 4 runs, 5 RBIs), Abby Stemp (3 singles, 5 runs), Hunter Kronholm (double, 2 runs, RBI), Sami Perkins (2 singles, 2 runs), Nadia Soucy (run), Makenzie Alley (2 singles, double, 3 triples, 3 runs, 5 RBIs), Jordan Greeley (single, run), Emma Spiegel (single, double, 3 runs, 4 RBIs) and Abby Astbury (run).

Leah Higgins had the lone hit for the Patriots.

Keach pitched for Searsport, as she allowed one hit and three walks, with eight strikeouts. Laura Curioli pitched for Bangor Christian, as she allowed 21 hits and 14 walks, with three strikeouts.
