The third annual Fill That Shed fundraiser, held at Lake St. George Brewery April 28, brought in $15,638 for Waldo County Woodshed.

The event was sponsored by Sen. Erin Herbig, D-Belfast, along with many community partners including Viking Lumber, Hamilton Marine, Ducktrap River of Maine, Bangor Savings Bank, GAC Chemical, Bank of America, Waldo County General Hospital, Front Street Shipyard, ReVision Energy, UNITEL, the Unity Foundation and Dutch Chevrolet Buick.

The goal this year was to raise $15,000, according to the Gofundme site set up for the event. The funds will be used to purchase wood from local loggers and landowners.

Waldo County Woodshed is a volunteer-run nonprofit group that provides free firewood for people in need. Founded in 2015, it currently operates from eight distribution sites throughout the area.

During the winter of 2018-19, Waldo County Woodshed furnished 170 cords of wood to 145 homes in 32 towns spread across four counties, totaling over $46,000 in assistance.

The April 28 event featured a family-style pig roast with all the fixings, beverages, lawn games, silent auction, raffle, and live music by Oshima Brothers and Ursa Beckford.

"Thank you to every one of you that donated to the woodshed and were part of our fantastic event," Sen. Herbig said on Facebook,  "We are lucky to live in Waldo County and I am so grateful for all your support!"
