Hello to All,

I am here again, and have been enjoying the sunshine, dodging the recent raindrops, and hanging on from the wind out there. My niece Tanya Braley showed up to rake in my yard, pick up sticks and make it look better. For that I am grateful. I have been waiting on dandelions, and hope to check them out soon. I had some fiddleheads twice. They have a different taste, but are good. Now for some fresh trout.

Knox Historical Society Update

The Knox Historical Society met on Wednesday night, and it was decided that we now have some officers: President Holly Ingraham, Vice President Marlene Spaulding, and Secretary-Treasurer Myrna Raven. They will work with the Bicentennial and wait on the Society, with the annual toll booth at the Bessey place being of importance. They are putting together a book of events, families in town, and other information.

T-shirts are in

The dark-green-with-white T-shirts are available from the Bicentennial Committee at the Town Office. They are $10 each.

Little Miss Mylee Grant competed in the USA Gymnastics Region 6 at Silver Spurs Arena recently. This Eastern Nationals was held in Kissimmee, Fla. It was a good, amazing experience to be out there with the best Level 9 gymnasts in the eastern half of the U.S., her mom said. She did three of the four events. Hopefully more info and pictures soon.

Loss of childhood friend

On April 28, Dorothy "Dottie" Oxton Abbey, who grew up in Maine living with the Kenney's, Fred and Lucy, passed away in Wauchula, Fla. She and I have remained friends after graduating in 1960 from Unity-Freedom High School. She had three daughters and a son, and nine grandchildren. I shall miss our cards, notes and Facebook connection.

Our sympathy to the family of Jerry Parker who passed on May 3 at SVH. He fought a good fight. I got Bob to go, and we had visited him on Sunday. We will never forget him. He was Mr. Legion to me, and my raffle ticket man.

A celebration of life for Jerry will be held at the Post 50 Legion Hall on Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. on Windemere Lane in Unity.

Condolences to the family and friends of Jimmy Bryant, who had a heart attack and passed away in Swanville. I remember his dad, Wilfred Bryant. Jimmy always had a smile and lent a hand to anyone.

Making a forge available

The Thorndike Mill and Meeting Place folks are looking for folks interested in starting up a community blacksmithing group, and building an outdoor forge on the grounds of the Farwell General and Thorndike Mill. They have been offered the forge equipment from the Roy Bessey Farm, and would love to see it become part of their providing an educational and practical opportunities. Call Doug Nye directly at 568-3253 for info on this.

Goings on

A lot of college graduations going on, and proms all over. Congrats to all the graduates. Enjoy, as you are only young once.

Get well

Lots of get well wishes to son Wayne who had back surgery on Friday. Hope he is well very soon for his busy schedule.

Yep, folks have been picking, or buying the early spring fiddleheads and enjoying them, including me. No dandelion greens yet.

Bessey Place

In case you haven't been by, the Dalys have puchased the Bessey place and are cleaning up the fields. The barn will be saved I am told, and the house demolished. It will look good there. There is hope for the old school.

The Fourth District Ladies American Legion Auxiliary will meet at Post 16 in Skowhegan on May 19 at 1 p.m. Elections.

Until next week,

I hope all have a good week. Sure seemed good to see the sun shining. I went outside when Tanya was raking and the black flies nearly carried me away, makes me so upset they swarm me. I must find a spray that is natural, hate to use the chemicals on me. Well good luck with that, I bet ya'll are thinking.

I keep watching a lone tom turkey and now he has picked what I will call his hen, as the two always seem to be together. At other times I see a few more in the back 40. Love to watch them. A pair of cardinals makes a daily visit.

Take care all, and be safe.
