Trailing 6-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning against Mount View of Thorndike on Monday, May 13, the Belfast baseball team did not panic.

The Lions, suddenly in danger of losing their fourth straight game after a blistering 5-0 start to the campaign, used timely hitting, patience at the plate and shaky Mustang pitching to hang a nine-spot on the board in the frame — and added six more in the fifth for good measure — as the hosts eventually walked off with an 18-8, six-inning victory over their Waldo County rivals.

Then, with a 6-1 advantage, the wheels came off for Mount View when Belfast brought 14 runners to the plate in the fourth to the tune of a nine-run inning.

Abbott began the inning with a single and was promptly doubled home by Kelley, while Cournoyer later added an RBI-single to pull the hosts within 6-3.

After Veilleux walked to load the bases, Hamlin rapped an RBI-single, Bartlett was hit by a pitch to plate another run and, after a two-run single to left by Payson, the hosts had rallied to take the lead 7-6.
